From Paris, With Love

Good news for the Oscars, the Spring/Summer 2011 Haute Couture shows turned up trumps with a host of beautiful, edgy and futuristic gowns. Last week in Paris the designers offered up captivating ensembles and most interestingly, all from dramatically different perspectives. From Armani Prive’s futuristic vibe to Dior’s 40s/50s inspired collection there was something in there for every girl.

Givenchy: The gowns in Ricardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy were something of a tale of two halves with loads going on at the front and then even more at the back. While details and elements certainly reminded me of his last Haute Couture collection the japanese influence, the flares of neon and the huge Philip Treacy headwear made it all interesting and fresh:

Elie Saab: When preparing this post I thought it would be reasonable to feature perhaps 2 or 3 of the best dresses from my favourite of last weeks collections. And everything was going fine. However when it came to the Elie Saab collection, reason when out the window. I’ve managed to narrow it down to a modest top NINE favourite dresses! But it really is such a beautiful collection, I think you’l agree that in this case it is in fact reasonable to have 9 favourites:

Armani Privé Over the last while I’v associated Armani Privé with Anne Hathaway and perfect-perfect gowns. This collection certainly undermined that association. What walked down Giorgio Armani’s runway last week were outfits for the Gagas, Rihannas and Nicki Minajs of this world. Futuristic ensembles fit for another world:

Best of the rest:
Chanel, Valentino, Alexis Mabille, Dior

What were you’re favourite collections? Who will wear what for the Oscars?
