It’s cocktail week everyone!! Therefore, a great excuse for a sneaky drink on a school night… In saying that I don’t mean you have to go out and spend Gossip Girl style, oh no, here at I am Hiawatha we will show you how to make your own classy cocktail using some Tia Maria. The alcohol brand has recently been showcasing some sumptuous cocktails to highlight the mixibility of Tia Maria, and with Paloma Faith as brand ambassador; we just had to give them a go! Here are some of our favourites below…

KEEP THE FAITH

 (Created exclusively with Paloma Faith for Tia Maria)

This luxurious cocktail was designed exclusively for Tia Maria by Paloma Faith to reflect her fiery yet playful nature. Made with Tia Maria, rich chocolate liqueur and a whole chilli this winter warmer certainly packs a punch.

¾ parts Tia Maria

1 part dark chocolate liqueur

¾ parts sugar syrup

5 – 6 slices of whole red chilli

Add all the ingredients into a shaker with lots of ice.

Shake well & strain into a martini glass.

Make a cut on the side of the whole red chilli, place on the rim of the glass.

Extra chilli can be added for more spice!

MARIA L’ORANGE

This fresh and fruity cocktail is perfect to enjoy with friends on a night out. Fusing Tia Maria, triple sec, orange and lemon juice and passion fruit it tastes just like a chocolate orange

¾ parts Tia Maria

¾ parts triple sec

1 bar spoon passion fruit syrup

½ parts lemon juice

1 ½ parts fresh orange juice

Combine all the ingredients together with crushed ice in a boston and shake.

Pour into a martini glass.

Garnish with a lemon twist

MOJITIA

A classic twist on a Mojito, this cocktail adds Tia Maria for a little extra kick. A refreshing drink to enjoy whilst dancing the night away with friends

1½ oz Tia Maria

1½ oz white rum

½ oz lemon juice

3 oz soda

Muddle mint leaves, lemon juice and powdered sugar in a highball glass, then add
crushed ice and pour in blended Tia Maria and rum.

Top up with soda.

On Saturday afternoon Rita and I made our way to Carnaby Street, for the “Carnaby Catwalk”… a runway show based on the best of the AW11 collections from the Carnaby street retailers. The charming street was transformed with music, lights and creatively curated fashion at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm on Saturday. There were three sections to show, “Collage”, “Future Mod”, and “Folk Bomb”, each distinctly different and interestingly conveyed. Our favourite was the Future Mod which was styled by Sarah Owen of Lucy in Disguise with Kim Nolan and Hayley Nunn.

“60′s London meets Futuristic Fetishism”

Highlights of the show were the white jumpsuit (above) and fleetwood print dress (below) from AQUA. The really great thing is that after the show we popped into AQUA and the pieces were there, sitting pretty, ready to take home. Two of the girls working in AQUA were wearing different versions of the green printed dress, which looked really great.

Overall it was a lovely event and really nice way of showcasing what Carnaby Street has to offer.

Italian label Miu Miu hosted a screening of its commissioned short film directed by Lucrecia Martel’s in California yesterday. Here at ‘I Am Hiawatha’ we love film, and of course fashion, so a feminine, fashion-inspired short is right up our street. Check out the mega short preview below, it really is just a sneak peek but still I am very much looking forward to seeing it! There were a number of notably well-dressed ladies in attendance wearing Miu Miu, including 14 year old actress and face of Miu Miu, Hailee Steinfeld. The True Grit star wore a blush dress with an embellished collar. Also looking stunning at the premiere, dressed in black Miu Miu dresses and matching heels, were Diane Kruger and Jamie King.

And what to say of of Emma Roberts? Personally I think she actually carries off this gold Miu Miu dress, and it’s not everyone who could! She wore it with black Prada heels and clutch. Her style choices for events have been pretty interesting so far, I think she’s one to watch. What do you make of this ensemble?

I recently moved to London in the hopes of landing my dream job in pr! While I am waiting-and applying and applying- I have started to wander around a little. London is a super place for all things retail, as I think the whole world knows, but it is also more than that, it is like Pandora’s box, you never know what you are going to find. This is what I felt when I stumbled upon the coolest little coffee shop I have ever been in, The Haberdashery. I never want to leave it and so it makes the tedious task of job hunting actually pleasantly bearable.

On my first visit, I asked for my usual cappuccino and then a banana, cinnamon and honey muffin caught my eye. My coffee came in a little bowl and my muffin came in a little terracotta flower pot-you get the picture?

You can also choose from wine, cocktails and delicious soft drinks like Curiosity Cola, YUM! The food is also delish and is served up on really lovely antique type, Victorian style plates.

The walls showcase paintings by local artists and there are always events on, many for local charities, which is always a plus.

From a look at the website I also saw that ‘On the first Friday of each month from 7:30 to 10:30pm, the Haberdashery turns into a colourful and kaleidoscopic bazaar with community artists, craftspeople and vintage sellers.

I think I have discovered a real gem here, but if I find any others you will be the first to know about it!

I Am Hiawatha have moved to London!

Exciting news, we’ve moved to London town. We’ve been busy getting set up here so havn’t been able to post much lately, but the good news is there’s loads of fashion inspiration everywhere in the city so we’ll certainly be back to regular posting very soon!

And how better to celebrate our move to London than Harpers Bazaar’s August cover shoot of Anne Hathway hopping around the streets of London. Shot by Alexi Lubomi and styled by Julia Von Boehm, Anne wears the A/W looks of Givenchy, Alexander McQueen and Prada.

Sun is shining, weather is… well ok you can sing along the rest yourself, but regardless of our rather volatile weather conditions, summer is well and truly upon us! So let us rejoice then in the long evenings, delightful cherry blossoms, floral dresses and of course the occasional beer garden. But above all else, let’s celebrate that fact that summer is a time that a holiday becomes a must rather than a need!

Whether your popping down the country or to a more exotic location, one holiday essential is a nice bottle of a light summer fragrance- and sun cream obviously!

Below I have picked out five of my favourites:

Marc Jacobs Eau so Fresh                                                                                                                                                                                                                 I already loved Daisy so this latest offering by Marc Jacobs was a must for me. It is lighter than the original, so it is perfect for those lazy summer days.

Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche                                                                                                                                                                                                      This has been one of my summer scents for years. I really like Chance but love this as it has a nice citrus twist which makes it perfect for any summer garden or evening parties.                                                               

Flora By Gucci Eau Fraîche                                                                                                                                                                                                         This is top of my perfume list this summer. The scent lies somewhere between floral and fruity, making you feel fresh and vibrant.

Chloé Eau de Toilette                                                                                                                                                                                                                           I love this scent as it is very natural and feminine. You can really wear this anytime of the day or night and it will make you feel pretty and elegant. 

Miss Dior Chérie L’eau                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Miss Dior Chérie in my opinion is one of the most romantic scents there is. However, its summer alternative has shaken things up in a more light-hearted, bubbly way. Perfect for a bit of summer lovin!

As we are all excited about the Griffith College Fornight 2011 we decided to give you a insight into one of the designers that will be on display.

Let me introduce you to Nicola Cantan.

Nicola started her fashion career aged 16 when she gained work experiance with one of Ireland’s top designers, Cieran Sweeney. She has since gone on to study Fashion Design at Griffith College for the past three years.

Speaking on her degree collection she tells us;

“Balance is a collection for Autumn/Winter 2011 inspired by the civil engineering and architecture of Santiago Calatrava.

I have used the contrast of opaque and transperent fabrics to represent the reflections of his work in the lakes and rivers they are adjacent to. I drew from the lines and shapes created by the metal structures to create geometric shapes in French seams and flounces, and combined this with hand-printed quotes in graphic block lettering.”

Could we be looking at Ireland’s next big thing?

I was never the biggest fan of Olivia Palermo on The City. I always thought she would be a nightmare to work with and always had pity for poor Whitney. However, I could not deny that this girl had serious style!! Due to this, I could not help becoming intrigued by her and her magical eye of putting random bits together and the end result being nothing short of amazing. So when I saw her face on the front of Marie Claire this month I bought it without hesitation.

On the cover, Olivia wears a Proenza Schouler monochrome jacket and neon yellow tank, a Marni floral skirt, a necklace and cuff from Erickson Beamon, a statement DSquared2 necklace. Inside, the shots are beautifully styled and she speaks candidly about what she does in order to maintain her unique style saying “I’m like a computer. I look at blogs and how people on the street put things together for ideas. When it comes to clothes, I remember every collection I’ve seen over the past 10 years. When I’m packing for a trip, I go through my whole wardrobe in my head, putting outfits together,” she told Marie Claire.

I can sense that this is one reality star that will be around for a while…
